Tray Maddox Jr
NBA G-League Player & Former NCAA D1 Athlete
Tray Maddox Jr. is a professional basketball player with roots in Michigan. A former NCAA athlete, who competed in March Madness and got drafted into the NBA G-League, Tray was looking to grow his personal brand.
He tapped me, a childhood friend + marketer, to lead his branding efforts.
Personal Branding
During his time in college, the NIL laws were approved, allowing college athletes to monetize their name, image, & likeness.
To capitalize on this, I supported Tray to get his NIL efforts off the ground.
My role:
Personal Branding: personal website creation, logo & branding identity, PR outreach, + more.
NIL Marketing Strategy: comprehensive plan including marketing materials, brand outreach, and deal negotiations.
Event monetization strategy: created an additional revenue stream by exploring event hosting possibilities, such as the Hometown Heroes Camp, outlined below.
Hometown Heroes Camp
An effective way for college athletes to make money autonomously emerged: hosting youth camps.
Tray & I took on an ambitious endeavor of hosting his own youth basketball camp.
My role:
Event logistics: location sourcing, camp staffing, camp sign-up portal creation, camp logistics, and event management
Event marketing: digital ad push across social + Google, PR outreach, and guerilla marketing tactics.
The camp was a great success, with over 50 camp participants.
We received press coverage for the camp in the Detroit News + Hometown Life newspaper.
